Jamaican Beef Patty

Ingredients

  • Pastry dough
  • 12 oz ground beef
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 1 sprig thyme
  • 3 stalks scallion, chopped
  • 1 small hot pepper, finely chopped
  • 4 slices bread, soaked and pureed
  • 1½ cups water
  • 1½ tbsp salt
  • ½ tbsp black pepper
  • 2 egg yolks or ½ cup milk (for glazing)

Directions

  1. Prepare pastry dough and chill.
  2. Brown beef with thyme in oil, add scallion and pepper.
  3. Mix in bread puree, season, and cook briefly.
  4. Roll out pastry, cut into circles, fill with beef mixture.
  5. Seal edges, glaze, and bake at 450°F for 25 minutes until golden.

Tips and Serving

Serve patties hot with coco bread or as a snack anytime of the day. They also freeze well before baking.
